Poland Deploys Bayraktar TB2 to Track Down Murder Fugitive
Polish authorities have dispatched a Bayraktar TB2 drone in the search for 57-year-old Tadeusz Duda, a man suspected of murdering two family members and eluding capture in a remote area of southern Poland, according to local media reports on Monday.
Duda is accused of shooting and killing his daughter and son-in-law in the village of Stara Wies, near Limanowa, as reported by media, the Polish state broadcaster.
After the attack, Duda fled into the nearby mountains and forests.
On Saturday, the fugitive reportedly opened fire on police officers after being spotted, before vanishing once again into the dense woodland.
Authorities have launched a major operation in the Malopolska region, involving hundreds of officers, including counterterrorism units, to locate the suspect.
On Sunday, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced military support for the search efforts.
"At the request of the Malopolska governor, the BSP Bayraktar will assist in the search for a suspect in the murders near Limanowa, with FlyEye drones also on standby to provide support," Kosiniak-Kamysz said on X.
The Bayraktar TB2, a Turkish-made UAV, has gained global attention for its role in Ukraine and can travel at speeds of up to 220 kilometers per hour (137 miles per hour) while remaining airborne for up to 27 hours.
Poland's military also utilizes FlyEye drones, primarily for reconnaissance missions.
Authorities have confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Duda, and a court has authorized a 14-day detention order.
Duda, who has a criminal record, was previously charged with domestic abuse and making criminal threats in 2022 and earlier this year.
Law enforcement is urging the public to report any information or sightings related to Duda’s whereabouts immediately.
