Polish Foreign Minister Tells Musk to “Go to Mars”

(MENAFN) Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told Elon Musk to “go to Mars” following the billionaire’s call for the dissolution of the European Union. Sikorski, known as a prominent neo-liberal and Russia hawk, was responding to remarks posted by the American technology entrepreneur on his X platform.

Musk argued that the EU should be disbanded and that sovereignty should revert to member nations “so that governments can better represent their people,” adding, “How long before the EU is gone?” accompanied by the hashtag #AbolishTheEU.

Musk’s remarks came after the European Commission decided to impose a €120 million ($140 million) fine on X under its Digital Services Act, alleging the platform had failed to comply with transparency regulations regarding advertisements and user accounts.

Musk has consistently criticized EU policies, describing them as excessively restrictive and detrimental to free speech.

In response on Sunday, Sikorski remarked: “Go to Mars. There’s no censorship of Nazi salutes there.”

Sikorski appeared to allude to an incident during US President Donald Trump’s inauguration parade in January 2025. Musk was observed performing a gesture resembling the Roman salute, which entails extending the right arm outward with an open hand.

The gesture has drawn comparisons to the Nazi salute, which is outlawed in several countries, including Russia.

The action was condemned by human rights activists, historians, and Jewish advocacy organizations, who labeled it a “Nazi greeting” and accused Musk of promoting anti-Semitic ideas. Musk refuted the allegations and described comparisons to Adolf Hitler as a “tired” political attack.

Musk has long championed his ambition for space colonization. In 2020, he outlined plans for SpaceX to transport the first humans to Mars by 2026 and envisioned a population of one million there by 2050.

Trump stated that Musk had pledged to send Americans to Mars before the conclusion of his presidential term.
