Poland's Ambassador to France Charged in Fake Academic Credentials
Jan R., currently serving as Poland's diplomatic representative in Paris, was apprehended shortly before the Christmas holiday period and now confronts four separate criminal counts connected to the Collegium Humanum scandal, Polish media disclosed Monday.
Prosecutors contend the diplomat transferred more than 9,000 zloty ($2,506) to the university's rector as payment for a counterfeit postgraduate Executive MBA diploma.
Investigative findings indicate Jan R. subsequently deployed the allegedly fabricated credential when pursuing appointment to a bank supervisory board position.
Poland's Central Anti-Corruption Bureau executed his detention earlier this month, and he has been provisionally suspended from his responsibilities at the Polish Embassy in Paris.
The sprawling case encompasses multiple additional defendants, including former Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentarian Maks K., Paula G., and entrepreneur Pawel P. Prosecutors accuse Maks K. of leveraging purported connections within Poland's Ministry of Education and Higher Education to orchestrate falsification of a psychology degree for Paula G.
Paula G. faces charges of facilitating the Collegium Humanum rector's issuance of the fraudulent diploma, while Pawel P. stands accused of delivering financial compensation to the rector on three separate occasions in exchange for fictitious EMBA credentials.
Four suspects collectively face 15 criminal charges and have undergone prosecutorial questioning. Conviction could result in prison terms reaching 10 years, prosecutors warned.
Collegium Humanum, the private academic institution at the investigation's core, underwent rebranding in mid-2024 as the Varsovia School of Business and Applied Sciences.
